Answer: "The practice of sending a copy of your own work to yourself is sometimes called a poor man’s copyright. There is no provision in the copyright law regarding any such type of protection, and it is not a substitute for registration. "
Question: What is required to have a song copyrighted?
Answer: "Two requirements must be met before a song can be protected by copyright: 1) the song must be original to the author and 2) the song must be fixed into a tangible medium of expression. (paper, tape, CD, etc.) However, a song title is not copyrightable."

Answer: "Preregistration is not a substitute for registration Its purpose is to allow an infringement action to be brought before the authorized commercial distribution of a work and full registration thereof, and to make it possible, upon full registration, for the copyright owner to receive statutory damages and attorneys' fees in an infringement action. "
